Chapter 1
A set of blue eyes watched white billowy clouds float through the ocean of blue above. The eyes belonged to a boy of thirteen. His messy brown hair that normally framed his rounded face blew in the wind. His arms out and his legs spread from how he fell backwards was his position on the dark green grass that grew on the gently sloped hill. Nothing was on his mind. He felt at peace for the first time in his life. No more pain. No more loss. No more war. For the moment in time, he was happy.
He closed his eyes as he began to become drowsy. He opened his eyes when something soft landed on his forehead. He picked it up and saw it was a cherry blossom petal. He smiled. 'Spring is here.' The season of renewal.
He sat up and tucked the petal into a gold heart locket that was the size of his palm. He always wore it so that he could have good luck courtesy of his brother. He got up when a loud boom interrupted the calm noise of nature.
The war was back on. Pain and sadness now refilled the world. Any happiness was left to the insane who loved the war and fighting.
He adjusted his dark brown uniform. He picked up his shotgun and slung it across his back. He looked at the stone wall that blocked the enemy army from getting in at the moment. He sighed and started walking.
Memories filled his mind of his past life at home back on a small island off the coast of the mainland of Rowria. He missed his family dearly but he had no choice but to join to rescue his brother. His brother had been captured by enemy troops. He clutched the heart. 'I will rescue you at all costs, Matthias,' he thought as he walked. He looked up when birds flew overhead, their shadows surprising him. He smiled and took off running. His mind was thinking of a new design to get past the enemies and past the guards on top of the wall. His inventions often failed but he had a good feeling that this time it wouldn't.
There was one problem. Unbeknownst to him, his secret basement full of inventions had been seized by his own allies and they were being destroyed. They were thought to be used against them. He had a lot of explaining to do when he got there.....
